about
This is the title track from the HARKNESS album called "The Occasion." It's a rally cry and call to arms for us all to look closely at the world outside and within ourselves to try and co-create a better more tolerant and Peaceful world.
Clocking in at 8 and 1/2 minutes it is an epic musical adventure that sails through passages of soulful west coast pop harmonies and strings, brooding cinematic big band menace, Stravinsky-esque overtures and driving Indie-Rock. It was recorded in my home studio here in Toronto. I sing and play guitar, bass, piano and drums on the track, all other instruments and sounds are real players(no samples or auto-tune used)
lyrics
“The Occasion” Lyrics:
Who would’ve known we’d be here right now
To taste the smoke and ash in satellite style
The hallelujah smoke screen of the warring souls
The schoolyard bullies have all grown so old
Rise to the occasion
Hey underground let’s take this town
There’s hope in this communication
Don’t let the crown go get you down oh no
A windblown curtain leads to an empty room
Where our only hope begins with doom
The silent bomb explodes it’s a murder’s feast
Let’s bring this bastard world to its knees
Rise to the occasion
Hey underground let’s take this town
There’s hope in this communication
Don’t let the crown go get you down oh no
There’s hope in this communication
Hey underground let’s take this town
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Dancing everybody iku
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Dancing everybody iku
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Dancing everybody iku
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Don’t stop the drain now, don’t stop the drain now
Don’t stop the drain now
Day Breaks alone feeling out of luck since she left
This heart’s a stone breaking up the rocks in this head
Four legs to crawl upon when the bull is seeing red
Born to a storm tailor made to weather with your friends
Rise, Rise to the occasion
Hey underground let’s take this town
There’s hope in this communication
Don’t let the crown go get you down oh no
There’s hope in this communication
Don’t let the crown go get you down oh no, oh no
Oooo
Yeah
Come go give it up, no giving up
Keep it up ‘til the cup is won
Oooo
Rise
