The “Come And Get It” EP is a glimpse into the swift and colorful music that will be found on the next Harkness LP titled “Ciao To The Beauty.” Unlike its predecessor “The Occasion” which had epic songs coming in at 8 and ½ minutes long the next group of songs will all be quick, short and to the point. “I like to think of this next album as a Harkness Juke-box” says the Canadian musician referring to the fact that most of its songs are of the earworm variety and are under 3 minutes long.

“This Ep really sets the tone for the upcoming album, all it’s songs are energetic, short and sweet refreshing musical nuggets” says the man behind the sound.

The opening song on the EP is “Come And Get It” a door crashing burner that sets the tone for all the music that follows. “If you weren’t awake and ready for some cool new music you will be within 5 seconds of hearing that first song” Harkness laughs. The spirit of the song is uplifting, rebellious and encourages the listener to turn off all the noise of the world around them and just listen to themselves in order to lead the way forward.

The 2nd song “Ciao To The Beauty” finds him using some of his more sophisticated arrangement skills as he layers, bassoons, marimbas and flutes under his patented 4 part harmonies while singing ‘Look up at the sky, kiss yourself goodbye” to invite a truly Free state of mind. “That song was written while on a solo trip to Brazil to holiday and visit my uncle who lived there at the time. The gorgeous environment and the open, joyful character of the people had a profound effect on me as did the fantastic local music that seemed to always be playing in the open air.” The song celebrates beauty and hints at the question ‘Why do we feel the need for an abundance of possessions and assets in order to find happiness.’?

The next song “Sugar Bitch” has a more classic singer songwriter feel to it. A concise jolly sounding number that has a slightly dark under belly lyrically. It’s about the dangers of blind romantic obsession and the longing for oneness. Regarding the song Harkness says “Usually when I write a song it comes straight from my own personal experience. “Sugar Bitch” was very different in that regard as it was inspired by my observations of what appeared to be a very painful situation that a friend of mine was going through with her ‘lover.’ “

The final song on the EP “Kisses We Invent” is a fast and furious closer whose lyrics riff on that sad but frothy feeling of a recent parting of ways with your lover. “Come back to me daring…I’m missing your body and the kisses we invent…” Touching on why he included this song on the EP Harkness says “ I think this tune illustrates a little bit of the lighter, more playful nature of some of the songs on the upcoming album really well.”, Though to be sure he promises as always that “there will also be some very poignant and heavier topics addressed in some of the album’s deep cuts too.”
