about

The HARKNESS sound is often massive with a wide variety of sonic colors bombarding the listener but in the case of “I.D.” things are comparatively “stripped down” which follows with the whole theme of the song i.e. Who are we without all our hang ups, desires and ambitions?

Harkness puts it this way: “These days everyone is taking about ‘Living in the moment’ but how closely are we really watching ourselves? As ambiguous as these song lyrics may appear, they are a call to be extremely attentive to our own inner world and maybe through that kind of observation we can find the real root and source of our pain.”

The song itself sounds like groovy surf rock mixed with a bit of Tame Impala. Warm 3-part vocal harmony, twangy electric guitars and a hypnotic drumbeat evoke the feeling of a weekend drive out of town.

lyrics

“I.D.” Lyrics:

The motorcycle wheels they're turning now
Backwards with no brakes on them
The years they pass with no more yearning
Just dusty mirrors and no one's learning

We're sleeping in on Monday morning
But there's no days off we're always working
The island date is always moving
Back in the city there's trouble brewing

Take drive through the countryside
Look at the sky and cast your days away

Take drive through the countryside
Look at the sky and cast your days away

The football game is getting boring
With the bugle sounds and no one scoring
But the neighbors made us cherry pie
And I like the look that's in your eyes
